I sometimes like to paint a square or rectangle behind a flower grouping to add contrast and interest to the composition. These poppies seemed to be asking for something extra, so I added two more buds and a thin shape to fill in the space on the left side.
Watercolors have always fascinated me, as have textures. So I sometimes combine rice paper or charcoal on my paintings. This adds an effect that I cannot achieve in any other way. The theme of nature with which my paintings deal is sometimes representational, other times more impressionistic, and occasionally abstract. The beautiful countryside of Waupaca County provides me with an endless amount of inspirational subject matter. Our beautiful home and studio near Iola, Wisconsin was my own design and includes gallery space and work areas where I can give individual instruction.
