The rice paper which I have used on this watercolor, along with the use of negative background painting, enhances and adds interest to the composition. This painting is one of two chosen by the judge to be part of the "Winter's Garden" exhibit at the Riverfront Arts Center in Stevens Point, and will be on display from Jan. 20th until Feb. 19th, 2023.
Watercolors have always fascinated me, as have textures. So I sometimes combine rice paper or charcoal on my paintings. This adds an effect that I cannot achieve in any other way. The theme of nature with which my paintings deal is sometimes representational, other times more impressionistic, and occasionally abstract. The beautiful countryside of Waupaca County provides me with an endless amount of inspirational subject matter. Our beautiful home and studio near Iola, Wisconsin was my own design and includes gallery space and work areas where I can give individual instruction.
