This ghostly tree trunk and its roots remind us of what once was in this rural location but is now gone. The area has been leveled and commercialized, leaving us with only memories of the past. This painting is mounted on clayboard, varnished, and the edges have been hand torn to eliminate the need for frame or glass.
Watercolors have always fascinated me, as have textures. So I sometimes combine rice paper or charcoal on my paintings. This adds an effect that I cannot achieve in any other way. The theme of nature with which my paintings deal is sometimes representational, other times more impressionistic, and occasionally abstract. The beautiful countryside of Waupaca County provides me with an endless amount of inspirational subject matter.
