Artist's Description
The rice paper which has been added to this watercolor gives it an almost three-dimensional appearance and increases the textural quality. I have used the negative "back painting" technique behind main flowers. This painting is mounted on clayboard, varnished, and the edges have been hand torn to eliminate the need for frame or glass.
About Carolyn Rosenberger
Watercolors have always fascinated me, as have textures. So I sometimes combine rice paper or charcoal on my paintings. This adds an effect that I cannot achieve in any other way. The theme of nature with which my paintings deal is sometimes representational, other times more impressionistic, and occasionally abstract. The beautiful countryside of Waupaca County provides me with an endless amount of inspirational subject matter. Our beautiful home and studio near Iola, Wisconsin was my own design and includes gallery space and work areas where I can give individual instruction.
